Hello Everyone -- I also would like to back up Tim Trager's very valid
points; a band organ is very important to the atmosphere of the
carousel, or any area of a park, for that mater.  I think the point of
the original article was missed, though.  Being an organ builder/restorer,
I understand the advantages of MIDI as a operating music source in a
commercial operation

Any organ, old or new, can be run from MIDI control and is much more
trouble-free in daily operation.  These days music rolls are becoming
harder to come by anyway, and operators run the same roll until it tears
itself up and then the organ sits silent because they have no rolls or
person who knows how to put it back into operation.  Having MIDI drive
on the organ presents a unlimited source of music and song selection.
It's still air and pipes and mechanical action on the drums, just from
a different control source.

So I vote for MIDI on commercial organs, old or new -- it's still
"The Happiest Music On Earth"
