In Italy, in the Milan Museum of Musical Instrument, a clavichord
with this text can be seen. It was built by Arnold Dolmetsch in 1892.


>>  Ut rosa flos florum
>>  Ita hoc clavile clavilium.
>>  As the rose is the flower of flowers,
>>  So this is the clavier of claviers.


Maybe this text was a variation to the older one:

  Ut rosa flos florum sic est domus ista domorum
 "As the rose is the flower of flowers, so is this the house of houses".

This inscription, just inside the entrance of the Chapter House of the
York Minster, also appears in the floor tiles of the Chapter House at
Westminster Abbey which was built some thirty years earlier.
