Recipes for Wood Stains
By Craig Smith

Hello all (and Al),

Alan Turner wrote about 'Recipes for Wood Stains', as described in
a book from 19th century England. In it he quotes, "to make Black
Stain for immediate use: Boil half a pound of Chip Logwood in two
quarts of water, add one ounce of pearl ash ..."

I can't help but wonder if the Logwood they refer to is actually
similar to what someone called "tree wood" which I suppose is yet
another word for "deal".

Sorry, I couldn't resist!
