Faulty Perforations In Nickelodeon Rolls
By Don Teach

Bob Billings wrote about punch sizes. If you look at enough original
style "A" music rolls you will find that Capital used several
diameters of punches up to 0.098 inch. If you are lucky enough to
look at three original rolls, all with the same number and tune lineup,
you will find mistakes. I have an original Clark 870 that is missing
the top octave of notes in one tune.

Many assume that if it is an original roll then it has to be correct,
which just is not the case. Ampico rolls had their share of mistakes
go out the door also, so it just isn't coin piano rolls. Any roll
company that was producing rolls in the heyday of the player piano was
producing rolls for one reason -- profit.
