Ruth 36X Organ from Smiley's Happyland
By Matthew Caulfield

The Ruth organ that used to be in Happyland is indeed owned by
Gavin McDonough (doing business as B.A.B. Organ Company). I have a
picture of it, showing the musicians playing in the animated facade.
Gavin maintains the organ mechanically and musically, and restorer
Rosa Ragan restored the facade several years ago.

The organ plays Wurlitzer 165 rolls rather than book music, having
been converted decades ago while under Nunley ownership. For a few
years Gavin rented the organ out to Busch Gardens, where it played
in the balcony of the beer hall there. It is now just at Gavin's
home in Richmond, Virginia, for his private enjoyment.

I would not give out Gavin's address or phone number without his
consent, since he values his privacy. But, if you like, I can send
you a couple of cassettes of music from that organ.
