Aeolian Organ Artist Alfred Hollins
By Jon Miller

"Alferd Hollins" roll identified

I previously made a post [040523 MMDigest, Unknown Piano Rolls]
asking for help identifying a particular roll, it's style, etc.
I had made some rather negative comments about the music.

I received many responses (which I've lost, so I'm responding here).
As many people suggested, the composer is "Alfred Hollins". Please
note, however, that I did not make a mistake: the hand-typed label
on the roll spells it as "Alferd", not "Alfred".

A couple people suggested I do not have very good taste in music if
I did not like the piece. I suspect these people did not listen to
the recording I put on-line.

As it turns out, the roll is for a Kimball Soloist Player Pipe Organ,
which uses a non-standard tracker bar. Since I was playing it on
a player piano, the holes used for things such as stop changes, etc.,
were played on the piano as notes, giving it a very strange sound
indeed!

My thanks to everyone who gave me information on this.
