Eric,  Are you going to use the glue near the stove?  This would
seem to be an inconvenient place to work.  The glue needs to be kept
at a more or less constant temperature and used quickly, so the pot
needs to stay not only on the stove but also near (right next to)
the work.  Constant temperature would also be a bit difficult with
a double boiler.

Once when my glue pot broke down I bought a used coffee pot with
a built in adjustable temperature control at a thrift shop for $3.
I threw away the insides and made an inner pot of a pint mason jar
which I suspended inside with a wire frame made of part of a hanger.
With the rest of the hanger I  made a frame to suspend the glue brush
on.  I soon replaced this with a wood dowel to prevent rust in the
glue.

Some experimenting with the temperature control on the coffee pot
and a candy thermometer allowed me to set the temperature at about
140 degrees F.  I used the pot for quite a while and it worked very
well.  Saved about $40 and avoided having two glue pots when the other
one was repaired.  Hope this helps.
