Spector Piano Co.
By John A. Tuttle

Hi All, According to the Pierce Piano Atlas, Spector & Son Piano Co.
was a small concern based in New York City that made about 23,000
instruments between 1903 and 1911. It goes on to say that they also
made the Terrace Pianos.

Since 'Spector' was not on the list of "870+ Player Piano Makes &
Makers, and the Player Systems that They Installed" at Player-Care.com,
it has been added to the list. Next to the name is the word "(unknown)",
which indicates that the player mechanism has not yet been identified.

At the bottom of the "Makers Listing" is a list of 71 known player
mechanism manufacturers. Many of those names are linked to individual
web pages containing descriptive information and a picture or two (if
available) that attempts to help the user identify the mechanism within
their player piano. While both the makers list and the manufacturers
list are works in progress, they have served their intended purpose
very well over the past few years. The list is located at

  http://www.player-care.com/makers.html

Very recently, I received some information from Diane DeTar that
appeared in an old AMICA Bulletin. A couple of weeks later, I received
permission from Robin Pratt to use that information at Player-Care (as
long as I give credit to AMICA, which is standard procedure for any
contributor or organization). Hopefully I'll be able to complete many
of the pages that are currently 'Under Construction'.

If you know of any player piano maker that isn't listed, please let me
know. I hope to someday to maintain the most complete listing ever
compiled. Naturally, if you know which mechanism was used in the
pianos currently listed as '(unknown)', I would very much like to hear
from you.

Musically,

John A Tuttle
