Allergens in the Home
By Mike Ryan

Since eBay has been a hot topic lately, I thought I would post
this related problem. I recently bought a tweed sport coat on eBay.
The opening bid was $7.99 and that's what I got it for. It arrived
promptly, was like new and fit well.

So what's the problem? After about five minutes my eyes and nose began
to itch. I haven't been bothered with allergies for many years but
I'm clearly allergic to this thing -- probably cat dander. I had it
dry cleaned, I vacuumed it, sprayed it with Whirlpool allergen
neutralizer, went over it with a sticky clothes roller -- and I've
scoured the Internet for ideas -- all to no avail. The sport coat
currently resides in a tightly-tied garbage bag.

The next step is to condemn this item to eternity in a landfill. But
surely I'm not the only one in this group who has unwittingly invited
allergens into his home. Any ideas?

Regards,
