Heat Wood With a Hair Dryer
By Tom Lear

Eliyahu Shahar stated that "A heat gun is too dangerous and can easily
scorch the wood. It will also ruin anything else in its path. It
should work but it needs to be controlled very carefully."

Right. Heat guns were designed for stripping paint, and can easily
scorch wood, so are not a great tool for more delicate jobs needing
merely warmth, rather than blazing heat.

For applications where it is most desirable that heat be delivered by
a hot air stream, but a heat gun is far too hot, an old hair dryer may
be a better choice. Most will have a selection of three levels of
heat, too. Usually available at your local second-hand store for about
three bucks.
