FS: Thomas J. Nichol Steam Calliope Whistles & Parts
By friesian@

I am interested in selling the steam calliope parts I acquired while
working at Disneyland in Anaheim, California. In 1955 Walt Disney
bought two antique steam calliopes and salvaged them into one. When
the calliope was converted to compressed air it was sent to Florida.
I have what remains of the steam parts, which are

(1) a mixture of 18 Thomas J. Nichol calliope whistles,
(2) a manifold for a 20-note instrument with 19 tracker-style valves,
(3) a 20-note brass keyboard,
(4) a Gabriel boiler, propane fired,
(5) a steam pump.

A calliope expert in New Orleans who viewed my photos said that the
brass keyboard and the whistles were made by Thomas J. Nichol and
some whistles predate the 1900s. There are some very large whistles,
too. The brass keyboard and whistles are weathered.

I have all the information from the boiler nameplate and can furnish
that to anyone interested. I believe the boiler was manufactured
in 1955 when Disneyland built their calliope.

Asking $45,000 for the lot, crating and shipping expenses not included.
The parts are located in Tustin, California (that's in Orange County,
not far from Disneyland). I would be happy to email pictures to
anyone interested.

Thank you
Sharon
