Pianola Playing in Public - The Programme
By Bill Maguire

I would like to take my player piano out of the shop again and bring
it to a public event. I got a very positive response from people
attending the grand opening of the Empire State Carousel [Brookhaven
Park, New York] which my player and I were a small part of.

I found that nearly everyone stopped to look, but whether they stayed
around for a long time or not was due in large part to what music I was
playing at the time. Several people applauded after the QRS rendition
of "Grand Old Flag," and "Joplin Ragtime Medley" attracted a good sized
crowd, but the largest crowd I kept for the longest time was for my
"Organ Grinders Swing" roll put out by Imperial. Several MMDers are
musicologists who educate the public on what good music is; I respect
that enormously. I just want to entertain people.

I would like to know from MMDers, which rolls or music seemed to be
most popular with the general public, from your experience?
