Player Piano Compositions By Marc-Andre Hamelin
By Juergen Hocker

In the MMD for 05.04/11 Jeffrey Borinsky asks:

    > I have just heard Marc-Andre Hamelin playing Mozart's K595
    > concerto on BBC Radio 3. After the performance the announcer
    > said that M. Hamelin was writing some works for player piano.
    > Does anyone know more about this?

Indeed, the famous Canadian pianist Marc-Andre Hamelin is an
enthusiastic player piano devotee. He is especially interested in the
music of Conlon Nancarrow and he has composed three pieces for player
piano so far:

Circus Galop (1991-94), setting for two player pianos by Juergen
    Hocker, a really hair-raising composition

Pop Music for Player Piano (1998)

    Sofeggietta a cinque (1999)

We made final corrections and changes for my Ampico-Bosendorfer a month
ago in Bergisch Gladbach. If all goes well, we will record these
pieces, together with other new pieces for player piano, next month for
the label Dabringhaus & Grimm.

Juergen Hocker
Bergisch Gladbach, Ger.
