Why eBay Pianos May Go Unbid
By Larry Norman

In the 05.06.25 MMD, Bruce Grimes writes: "I wonder why so many unusual
pianos on eBay aren't even bid on."

My opinion is that the most important part of deciding to buy a piano of
any sort is listening to how it sounds. Every piano has its own sound.
A great pianist who may be in town for a concert, would likely go to
the Steinway warerooms or one of the large showrooms in the town and
play all the pianos until he found one that suited him, both in attack
and sound and how it felt in playing.

The most important thing to me, since I do not play a piano, is to
listen to a great many player pianos with many types of rolls until I
have found one that I really like the sound of, when it plays.

On eBay or any other print sale venue, you only see the pictures or
description; you do not hear how it sounds or feels. This could be a
major reason why they do not get a bid.

Musically,
Larry Norman,
Virginia
