FS: Microfilm "Organ Building For Amateurs"
By Victor Searle

As I was going through the remains of my library after entering this
resthome, I came across a microfilm of the 1887 book "Organ Building For
Amateurs," by Mark Wicks. I have my printed-out copy, but if anyone
wants the microfilm, make me an offer. [The book is back in print and
is being sold by the Organ Historical Society for $53.95]

The microfilm was made by Library of Congress many years ago. It gives
explicit instructions on making paper pipes, of which I have made many
and used them in some organs, and no builder ever caught on. There is
of course great controversy about pipe material, but I personally think
voicing is the true criterion. I've even made 8-foot pipes from PVC
drainpipe material, and the thickness of the walls gives the pipe a
firm, steady tone.
