Player Piano Keys Don't Move
By Roger Anderson

Nicholas Simons wrote, "The only reason I can see for having the keys
go up and down is to amuse little children who are more interested in
this than the music."

I have graduate degrees in music and perform regularly vocally and on
violin and viola. I am _very_ interested in the music but I am also
amused when the keys move. My amusement comes in spite of the fact
that I am several dozen years past my childhood.

In the past, I have done many player demonstrations for school classes
and Scout troops. They too enjoy the music and are also intrigued with
movement of the keys. Given the recent MMD thread of waning interest
in the hobby, moving keys would seem to be a good thing.

The mention by Phil Dayson, in MMD July 16, of the adjustable clip and
thread sounds interesting. I would like to see a sketch of this to
modify my English Weber half Duo-Art so the keys will move. It's okay
if Mr. Simons doesn't approve but my grandchildren will be thrilled.
To each his own.
