Sale of Joyland Park in Wichita, Kansas
By Marvin Zeigler

Joyland park in Wichita, Kansas, has been sold. The people who bought
the park hope to do some renovation and possibly reopen the park next
Spring.

This is great news, it means we won't lose that great Wurlitzer Mammoth
Band Organ and we can enjoy it's music again. I would hate to see the
organ go to a private collection and we could no longer enjoy it. That
was a possibility if someone bought the park for the land and sold off
the equipment.

[ Joyland's future owner plans spring opening
 [
[ Stanley and Margaret Nelson have finally sold Joyland, the aging
[ amusement park at 2801 S. Hillside. The new owner has plans to
[ renovate the park, Margaret Nelson said, and it could open as soon
[ as next spring. She said the buyer, who is not local, has asked
[ to remain anonymous until later. The sale will close Dec. 15.
[ She declined to disclose the sale price. It was marketed for $1.7
[ million. The Nelsons have owned the park since 1973 and have
[ worked there since 1949. -Dan Voorhis-
