FS: Free "Automatic Musical Instrument"
By Spencer Chase

Greetings, Just in time for Christmas giving is an automatic musical
instrument that anyone can afford. It is a "virtual" Wind Chime that
runs on the PC. It can be configured to sound like a wide variety of
chimes and can run in the background. I am sure there are still plenty
of bugs and it is probably not the easiest program to understand fully
and to make sound the way you might envision but it is very flexible
and can certainly waste as much time as playing solitaire.

There are other free wind chimes on the web but this one really allows
you to take control and turn it into something unique if you spend the
time. I wrote it in order to learn some things about MIDI programming
so it was not a total waste of time. It can be downloaded from the
following URL.

The chime pattern is chosen by a mix of randomness and user adjustable
factors that attempt to emulate patterns produced by wind. Various
modes and keys can be selected as well as variables that control
timing. I would like feedback especially from people who achieve good
results with it or who have suggestions as to how to make it better.

I'm not sure of the minimum computer requirements but my guess is that
the timing of notes might be sloppy with a slow computer. Anything
over 650 MHz should be fine. Make sure to read the "help file" that
is in the zipfile and also is accessible from a button in the program
window.

Best regards,
