A few years ago, the Rodgers Royal V (Virgil Fox's touring organ,
analog, 5 manuals, 125 speaking stops) which as Japan rep for Rodgers
I sold to a religious organization near Kyoto, Japan, was shipped
back to the USA to be digitalized.

The ivory keyboards had to be removed and the console shell sent over.
Whether it was that the ivory couldn't leave Japan, or whether the
ivory wasn't allowed into the US I don't know, but I understand it
was a big hassle.  There was no problem when the organ was originally
brought here, for the question never arose.

Incidentally, I heard a rumor that Korean piano manufacturers are using
mastodon ivory for their keys.  Anyone know about this?  Are there
enough dug up mastodons around to keep up a good supply?  Just curious.
