Blower for Small Pipe Organ
By Andy LaTorre

I would like to belatedly weigh in on the comments of John Adams
concerning the surplus blower that I purchased last July. John's
comments concerned me because he did not specify the wind pressure
required by his rank of 2-foot pipes. When I tested out the blower
I used a water manometer at static pressure. In other words, the
outlet was covered by a plate connected to the manometer. There was
no air flow. The static wind pressure of my unit was 4.5 inches.

If I were to use this blower for a chest of pipes, I would use it for
pipes that required 2 or 3 inches of pressure. Then there would be
enough air flow to blow the pipes. Asking the blower to blow a set of
pipes at, for example, 4.5 inches, would be impossible. As soon as one
pipe tried to sound the pressure would drop, as John says.

I should have said at the end of the July post: I have not used this
blower yet, but I believe it would be good to power a small, low
pressure organ or rank of pipes. I do not know its capability (in how
many pipes it can blow) but one must try it out first.
