Gaskets Under Pneumatics
By Bruce Clark

While this practice has advantages, it depends upon what type of gasket
material is chosen. Ampico used small patches of cheese cloth, Aeolian
stacks used thin leather. Both materials will assist in the removal
process in rebuilding, but please use some caution.

I recently encountered a very well restored Ampico stack. Well-meaning
restoration experts had installed thin cardboard gaskets under each stack
pneumatic. The sad part of this is that the cardboard deteriorated in
a short time, and a loud passage in the music would exert enough force
to detach the pneumatics from the stack! The entire stack had to be
disassembled, the cardboard gaskets removed and each pneumatic required
re-gluing.

What every you do, never use modern glue for attaching pneumatics!
Always use old-style hot glue.
