Seek Ampico Dancing Lessons by Denishawn School
By Robbie Rhodes

Mr. Frank A. Lombardo, of Saratoga Springs, New York, is helping
the National Museum of Dance, also in Saratoga Springs, to develop an
exhibit about Ruth St. Denis and the Denishawn School Of Dancing And
Its Related Arts. He plans to make an audio recording for the exhibit
of the series of 10 Ampico rolls entitled "Ampico Dancing Lessons",
published circa 1928.

In Obenchain, "The Complete Catalog of Ampico Reproducing Piano Rolls",
the series is identified as

AMPICO DANCING LESSONS as taught by Denishawn, the Ruth St. Denis
and Ted Shawn School Of Dancing And Its Related Arts.

The artist is Louis Horst (1884-1964), musical director of Denishawn
from 1915 to 1925.

Frank has already located eight of the ten rolls and has arranged with
with Terry Smythe to transcribe the rolls to MIDI files; he seeks these
two remaining Ampico rolls, both played by Louis Horst:

67913H Recording No. 2 Bar Exercises

67943H Recording No. 5
  1. A Garden Dance (solo dance for a girl);
  2. Three Little Maids (a dance for 3 girls)

If anyone is able to locate the rolls or audio recordings of the rolls,
please contact Frank through e-mail at
