Seek Spoolbox Pinion Gear for British Duo-Art
By Andy Hood

Having finally collected my Steck player piano I now have a query
or two! Does anyone know where I can get a replacement drive gear?
It is the small one that engages with the larger gear mounted on the
take-up spool. The one I have is cracked along its length and has
a number of worn teeth too.

Also any information on the differences between the US-made Steck
upright and the English one?  The case is very obviously different;
do the internals vary, too?

Thanks in anticipation,
Andy Hood

 [ The broken gear you describe is a pinion gear, often fashioned of
 [ drawn wire stock in lieu of hobbing. The pinion is pressed onto
 [ the shaft of cold rolled steel. In USA production the tooth shape
 [ is 14 degrees pitch angle. Show the pinion to a friendly machinist,
 [ who will suggest a source for replacement. -- Robbie
