Woodworm Infestation and Treatment
By Dave Smith

Hello All, Ignoring what might be the obvious answer -- that is,
"Don't buy it!" -- let's just suppose you found a good deal on a great
instrument that shows evidence of wood worm. Let's go on and say it
is one of those things you _must_ have; you know, like all the other
stuff in your collection!

How would you treat such a problem? What for sure kills these pests?
Will a winter in upstate New York, stored in cold storage, do the trick?

I have asked fumigators and they have a procedure of "bagging" the
object and filling the bag with some type of chemical. Has anyone
ever done anything like this?

Thanks,
Dave Smith

[ "Fumigation with methyl bromide will eradicate infestations but is
[ usually only practical for pieces of furniture or properties that
[ can easily be completely sealed. Methyl bromide has no residual
[ action, so, following fumigation, treatment of the timber with
[ residual insecticide is required to protect the wood from further
 [ infestation."
