Player Piano Frame Breaks During Restoration
By Aaron Carlson

Good Morning all! A good friend of mine who has been restoring player
pianos for almost 45 years called me the other day. He had just
finished this upright player, it was strung, he had tuned it several
times, and he was sitting at his workbench touching up the player stack
getting it ready to install, when <BANG>! He said it sounded like an
explosion!

He turned around, and found that the harp had broke. It had also
fractured in several other places close by, and those were growing and
threatening to break. So the piano was essentially junk after all that
work. Has anyone else heard of this happening?

The owner of the piano came out to see it, and she was very understanding,
and all ended well with her, but it was rather devastating for this to
happen.
