Pratt-Read Player Piano Actions
By John A. Tuttle

Hi All, Pratt-Read had three basic player systems. The Model "M"
Foot Expression Action, the Model "P" Upright Reproducing Action, and
the Model "PC" Combination Reproducing Action. The Reproducing Action
is a Recordo type mechanism. Therefore, I would classify it as an
expression system rather than a reproducing system. However, I suppose
that at the time, any player that automatically added various levels
of expression might have been referred to as reproducing actions for
the sake of advertising a product that was in competition with Duo-Art,
Ampico, Welte, Recordo, and others. Just my guess...

From the posting that Wolfgang sent, it seems possible that he might
have the fairly rare Model "P" Upright Reproducing Action. I carry
the twelve-page 1920's blueprint and manual for that action at

I also recommend the Pratt-Read Style 72 Player manual, which covers
other aspects of the player mechanism. It's listed just below the
Model "P" manual.
