QRS One-piece Roll Boxes
By John Phillips

Since there is a roll box thread in progress, here is a question about
those one-piece roll boxes that QRS used for a while with Recordo
rolls. Maybe QRS used them for ordinary 88-note rolls too; but I don't
have many of those. All my one-piece examples house Recordos.

These boxes work well -- until the staple that holds the pull-out tab
rusts. This rots the material of the tab, and the tab breaks off.
Then one can extract the roll only by forcing one's finger inside or by
holding the roll box vertically and shaking it up and down, until the
roll hammers the box open. Neither practice does the box much good.

I've found that, with a vast amount of trouble, it's possible to undo
the staple, remove it, and get rid of the remnants of the original
tab. The staple can then be de-rusted and used again. I've managed to
do this twice.

It would be much easier to use a new staple. Does anybody know whether
they are still available? I realize the chances of this are very
small. Further, does anybody know what the original tab material was?
It feels like a thick, stiffened cotton tape.
