Convert Ampico to Pianomation or Sell It?
By Rodney Diehl

I have lost interest in maintaining my J.C. Fischer Ampico, serial no.
167061, set up to play 88-note rolls. I have obtained a Pianomation
kit.

What to do? Remove the Ampico action and install the Pianomation? Or
sell the piano, buy a non-player, and install the Pianomation in that?

I am ambivalent about the removal of the Ampico action, as someone out
there might appreciate the piano as a whole. In addition to its value
as an heirloom, it is an outstandingly beautiful piece of eye candy for
the living room, as it has the double legs and two-tone finish.

Is anyone reading this interested in the Ampico mechanism, less the
drawer front? Is any one interested in the whole piano? This is an
old restoration that I converted to play 88-note rolls. I have all the
old parts. I can send pictures, if you have an interest.

At this point I would like to keep the piano and sell the Ampico
action. But if I knew it was going to a real enthusiast, I would sell
the whole instrument intact.
