Wide Piano Rolls
By Tom Hutchinson

I have recently received two piano rolls. The first is labeled

  Solo Apollo. S1078, BUTTERFLY, (Schmetterling),
Op. 43 No 1, Key of A, Edward Grieg, QRS Chicago.

This is a 15-1/4 inch roll. However it is not a 65-note 6-to-the-inch
roll but has been punched 9-to-the-inch. As such it will not play on
my Apollo because the punchings extend beyond the ends of the lower
88-note tracker bar. On what type of piano was this roll designed to
play?

The second roll in question is #4177, The Isle of Spice March, Rosey,
Connorized Music Company, New York. This roll is punched 6-to-the-inch,
appears to be a 65-note roll but is 13-5/16 inch long. Again, what
type of piano was this roll made to play on? It will not fit on my
Apollo.

I have no need for these rolls, each are in good shape, so if you are
interested make me an offer.

Thanks, Tom Hutchinson

[ The "Solo Apollo" rolls play on a rare Melville Clark piano with
[ _two_ action stacks (for Theme and Accompaniment intensities). See
