Mills Violano With Cracked Harp Plate
By Ed Gloeggler

The cracked harp is a common failure of the Violano. It is discussed
in several publications. Welding is the least successful way of
addressing the crack. They usually just crack again. Usually a plate
is bolted to the back, bridging the crack, and let into the woodwork.

Replacement harp castings are being made and cost about $1000.

At $8000, the Violano you are looking at sounds like quite a deal, as
long as you can do the work yourself. After investing quite a few
hours of your own work, you'll triple your investment.
