Ampico Electric Roll Drive Conversion

I have used a 90-volt DC gearmotor (Grainger.com part #4Z539) and a
controller (Grainger part #4Z827D) on an upright pedal pumper in place
of the air-motor for the roll transport. The results were most grati-
fying.

The steady tempo adds considerably to the enjoyment of the music, at
the same time reducing the effort to produce it. You will need to make
an adapter for the gearmotor drive shaft to fit the sprocket you will
be using to drive the transmission. You will also need a larger diam-
eter drive sprocket for the gearmotor.

Mounting the gearmotor is self-evident. The controller has a rotary
control which is easily adapted to the linear motion of the tempo indi-
cator. I have not tried this unit on an Ampico drawer yet, but plan to
do so soon.
