Ragtime Tune to Commemorate QRS
By Jeffrey R. Wood

Suggestion to a composer of rags

I think someone should compose a catchy ragtime tune to commemorate
the more than 100 years of virtually uninterrupted piano roll
manufacturing by QRS, while acknowledging one of several significant
factors that brought current roll production to a halt. The piece
would be appropriately called, "Dangling Chad Rag". Ref.:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chad_(paper)

Actually, this idea originally entered my mind following the 2000
Florida Presidential Election. Since even before then, QRS has had
little success in economically dealing with the problem, and I'm sure
it had a lot to do with declining sales. I hope that the next time
around -- if there is to be one -- thicker paper with better-maintained
punch-and-die sets will be used. Wouldn't most of us gladly pay
a dollar or two more for a top-quality product?
