In trying to find out something about the "Cylinderlyre" invented by
Danish piano maker Hans Peder Møller (1802-1859), I came across this
excerpted history of the Hornung & Møller piano factory, written by
Hjalmar Bull in 1927 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the

The whole, longer article was published in Dansk Musik Tidsskrift,
1927-28, no. 2, p. 46-64.  Unfortunately both the article and the web
excerpt are in Danish.  Bull says about the Cylinderlyre:  "Patentet
paa Cylinderlyren fik han 11. Maj 1836.  Den er et Instrument væsentlig
til Udførelse af Dansemusik, hvor Ideen er hentet fra de italienske
Cylinder-Pianoforter, og som forener Klaverets Toner med Lirekassens
Spillemaade."

Translation: "He [Møller] received the patent for the Cylinderlyre on
May 11, 1836.  It is an instrument essentially for furnishing dance
music, whose concept is adopted from Italian cylinder pianos and which
melds the piano's sounds with the busker-instrument's method of play."
