Welte Orchestrion Rolls as MIDI Files
By John McClelland

In response to Andy Struble's request for Welte orchestrion rolls as
MIDI files [090408 MMDigest] I might be interested in assisting in such
a conversion project. I have been converting T100 Welte rolls to MIDI
files, in order to play them on my Mason & Hamlin upright T100 piano,
equipped with an e-valve system.

I have a dual array scanner that will handle rolls up to 15 inches
wide. There are several of us who are furtively scanning anything
we can get our hands on (paper being the finite resource that it is!).
At last count I have about 1400 Welte T100 and Licensee rolls in MIDI
format, all in pristine condition and wonderful to listen to on my
piano. I can still play T100 rolls -- I just take the blocking plastic
strip off the tracker bar.

There was also a fellow who wrote a program to duplicate roll box
labels. I purchased the program about 10 years ago and still have it
around somewhere. I used it for all sorts of Welte labels; it works
great.

If anyone has the Welte roll of Gottschalk's "Grand Scherzo" and would
consider letting me scan it I would be very grateful. (I pay postage
both ways and include an honorarium to cover a 6-pack!)

It's been a while since I have been active in MMD. I'm very pleased
to see it still alive and vigorous. Keep up the good work, Robbie!

Best,
John McClelland
