Mechanical Music at Walt Disney World
By Brian Smith

In response to TJ Fisher in MMD 090626, it's great to hear enthusiasm
for these instruments in the World of Disney. Unfortunately, there
is no automatic music in the World of Disney. They have abandoned
the concept of mechanical music and embraced the practical reality of
digital recordings which can be played over and over and over several
thousand times and more.

Automatic musical machines are too costly in Disney's viewpoint.
They are only extravagant, high-maintenance antiques that are better
kept in the capable hands of a J.B. Nethercutt or a Jasper Sanfillipo.
Never mind that Disney has the millions and the talent and skill to
create a wonderful room full of music machines. They are only
interested in easy, bottom-line money making statistics.

Read the history of Walt and you will see that he, himself, the founder
and dreamer had a different love and appreciation of mechanical music.
It was Walt himself who actually purchased instruments from the nearby
Raney collection to fill his new park, Disneyland, with wonderful
music.

Let's remember the vision of Walt Disney himself and not the current
state of affairs.
