Roll-operated Theater Organs
By Mike Roseboom

Does anyone know approximately how many roll-operated theater pipe
organs are in existence today? I'm assuming there aren't that many
around. The only one that I know of that has its original roll player
is the Wurlitzer in Roosevelt Memorial Park in Gardena, California.
But the player's wiring was disconnected at some point and the organ is
in need of restoration. I find it interesting that many roll-operated
theater organs were originally installed in venues other than theaters.

Also, was classical music the primary repertoire on the rolls, or was
popular music common as well?
