DeBence Museum has acquired a street piano and cart thought to date
to about 1900 and to have been made in London, England.  The piano
is a Chiappa, and the cart was alleged to belong with it.  The piano
was disassembled and we are in the process of putting it together.
I have two questions we need help with:

1. The cart carries a number "ALS No. 28" in large letters on the
tool box which is mounted between the handles.  What does this number
represent?

2. The piano is a 48-note design and had a split pin board.  In the
process of getting the pin board out the prior owner obliterated the
scale markings.  Can someone tell us the scale to tune the piano to?
