Unusual Weber Solea Orchestrion on YouTube
By James Krughoff

I have visited the Café Fribourgeois three times. You are correct in
assuming that this Weber Solea was custom built. The owner said it was
built special because of their low ceiling. An early Weber catalog,
however, shows this instrument. It has a nice-looking case with two
moving scenes.

The music is proper for the time frame in which this machine was made.
I examined their collection of rolls years ago, and all the rolls dated
back to around the time the machine was built. The march playing on
YouTube is "Bayerischer Defiliermarsch" ("Parade of the Bavarian
Troops"), composed by Adolf Scheizer in 1850. It is one of my favorite
songs on my Ruth 38er. I do not have the song on my Weber Maesto, but
I wish I did. I think you would like the song if you heard it live on
a Solea or Maesto. The music on YouTube is not very good.
