Seek Correct Decals For Early Steinway Pianola
By Robert Perry

Hi all, I have a Steinway Vertegrand Pianola which Steinway's web
site thinks was manufactured in 1915. I have my doubts, since it
doesn't have a Duo-Art system but does have Themodist Metrostyle
and Temponamic. I suspect it was probably a year or two earlier.

Anyway, I'm trying to get it professionally restored this year, but
the original decal has been replaced by a modern one. Does anyone
have a 1914-15 New York Steinway with original decal and can tell me
what style it was? Mine looks to be the same as this one:

and from the looks of things (very hard to see in this photo) it was
the smaller, simpler decal that said STEINWAY PIANOLA rather than the
more fancier, florid "Steinway & Sons" decal which seems to have been
phased out a couple years earlier.

Any help appreciated! My serial number is 171344.

Cheers,
Robert Perry
