58-note Rolls for Aeolian Concertola?
By Paul Morris

Hi all. I was very interested to hear about these 58-note rolls with
the unusual leader. As a Concertola owner I would doubt if anyone
would consider using 58-note rolls on one of these machines. (I just
got my Concertola working about three days ago, and still have to go
to a special clinic for "help" once a week.)

The Concertola was a device for playing one of ten Duo Art organ rolls
loaded up on a sort of Ferris wheel or "drum." The rolls could be
requested using a remote control, or played consecutively as a "rolling
programme." Models for piano rolls as well as organ rolls were made
in the late 1920s by the Aeolian Company.

Why I do not think 58-note rolls would be suitable for the Concertola
is simply that very few 58-note organ rolls are not metrically cut,
and none of them could control organ registration, making a programme
of [unattended] 58-note organ rolls very dull indeed! But who knows?!

Music rolls for the Concertolas I've seen do not need special leaders,
but are equipped with loading rods which couple to the regular leaders
and engage with the feeding mechanism. That said, I'd love to see one
of these special leaders out of curiosity.
