Barrel Organs in Chile - Organillos Lizana
By Robbie Rhodes

Attendees at the Waldkirch Orgelfest in 2005 and 2008 were
entertained by energetic Chilean chinchineros who danced while
playing big drums ("bombos") carried on their backs, accompanied
by a barrel organ. The entertainers were the Lizana family from
Santiago de Chile, sponsored by Heinz Jäger and Wolfgang Brommer
of Waldkircher Orgelbau, Waldkirch, Germany.

Manuel Lizana Quezada, who began repairing barrel organs in 1978,
now conducts his own business building new 26-note barrel organs for
organ grinders in South America. He is assisted by his sons Manuel
and Héctor.

The Lizana family invites readers to visit their new web site at
http://www.organillolizana.cl/ Many photographs of organs under
construction are displayed in the "taller" (workshop) section, at
http://www.organillolizana.cl/fabricacion.html
