Lador Musical Box
By Don Caine

Hi Jeroen, The information supplied really is too vague for anyone
to specifically identify the item for you. As the editor responded, it
sounds like you have a small musical collectible toy that is fashioned
to look like an organ grinder.

In all probability you have a novelty item that was made by a German
or Austrian manufacturer that incorporated a Lador musical mechanism,
made in Sainte-Croix, Switzerland, as its musical and mechanical motor
drive.

As a wild guess, you may have what is known as a "Hedge Hog" organ
grinder, where the little man has spiked hair like a porcupine and
usually is wearing a plaid shirt, beige pants, and rubberized boots.
I believe they were made by a German or Austrian company and I have
seen them fitted with Lador, Reuge or Thorens small 18-note mechanical
mechanisms. When the music played the organ grinder's arm moved around
and around as if cranking the organ; his head moved as did his feet,
which shuffled in such a way that he actually pushed the little cart
around in a circle.

Most sincerely,
Don Caine - Proprietor, The Music Box Repair Shop Unlimited
