Roll-Operated Player Pipe Organ Census
By Larry Leonard

I am enjoying hearing about all those roll-playing pipe organs
out there in this great country. I have seen many of those that have
been referred to, and a few are still operating. Check the website
http://esteyorgan.com for a wonderful listing of all of the Estey pipe
organ built, including those that were automatic roll playing.
Included is a fine instrument that I have here in my music room. It is
opus 1541, but the console is from Estey automatic organ no. 1527.

The original specs were: 14 duplexed ranks plus harp and chimes and 2
pedal stops. The organ has been enlarged to 23 ranks including a five-
rank echo division. To this has been added a player unit using band
organ rolls and many percussions. The last addition was an electronic
piano available on the great manual. All of this can be used with a
MIDI interface.

Several organists have recorded for me. Estey issued about 922 roll
titles, of which I have about 600. Truly a fine instrument.
