Error in QRS Ampico Test Roll AMP-1002
By Walter Tenten

Dear MMD, today I checked the performance of my Ampico A reproducing
piano. As I had acquired two test rolls bundled with 23 other Ampico
rolls last year, I considered it a good idea to apply these tools.

By chance I selected the QRS roll labeled AMP-1002 for my investigation.
To my surprise the repetition test ran with an intermediate intensity
in the treble region, while it performed with minimum intensity in the
bass section. The intensity punchings which are repeated occasionally
during this specific test are "Cancel B" in the Bass section and "Treble
6" in the Treble section. To me this made no sense and appeared to be
outside the intent of the test.

Then I remembered the second test roll: a Klavier recut of Ampico
61391. This roll did not show the irregularity described above. The
interspersed intensity punchings during the repetition test are "Cancel
B" and "Cancel T", as one would have expected. The Klavier roll had
the additional advantage that the transparent paper simplified the
identification of the holes in the tracker bar.

Best regards from Germany, where winter is preparing its reign.
