Building a Singing Bird Mechanism
By Alan Douglas

Hi, I've been waiting with bated breath for someone to comment on
a synthetic substitute which looks like thin Tyvek. A friend who
repairs cuckoo clocks gave me a piece. I've also searched the
archives, but I find no mention of it.

My particular application is recovering the pneumatics in an Aeolian
Grand reed organ. I originally used Perflex polyurethane, and found
out (like everyone else) what happens to that in ten or twenty years,
although it worked beautifully for some time.

Has anyone had any experience with this material? I'm not so much
worried about glue-ability as with longevity.

Thanks,
Alan Douglas
