Identifying Disc Musical Box Models
By Matthew Caulfield

> Is there a reference source to help identify disc music box models?

I have always found that the book which I mentioned in yesterday's
MMD (in reply to the question about identifying a Regina disc box)
more than suffices for identifying models of other disc box makers.
The Bowers Encyclopedia, as it is commonly known, has an exhaustive
and well illustrated chapter (pages 97-252) titled "Disc Music Boxes."

If you correlate the pictures shown there with the technical and
dimensional information that Dave Bowers provides, you will usually
be able to determine the model number of your music box.

The Bowers Encyclopedia is a pricey book, but an excellent value for
its size and a good investment, if you do much work in the mechanical
music line. If not, you can always borrow a copy from your local
library, which, if it doesn't own the book itself, should get it for
you from another library by inter-library loan (ILL).
