Hi all,  Dick Hack has recently posted a request for information about
black rope used in old automatic musical instruments for holding glass
in place.  I have never noticed this material personally, but the
Wurlitzer Company used rushing material to keep glass windows secure in
1930s jukeboxes.  Rush material usually comes in rolls and is available
in various diameters.

Liquid black shoe polish would work well in this application since the
rush is traditionally made of twisted paper.  You should be able to find
it at a craft store or else at a wood workers shop such as Rockler.
