Age of Britannia 9" Disc Musical Box
By Wayne Myers

Following up, our "smoking cabinet" model (reg. no. 370.254) has the
markings "Britannia, St. Croix, Switzerland" and "Star Silver Depot,
London". It is a duplex comb with 80 teeth. The 9" model is the same
as the earlier 8-1/8" model but with the drive being on the outer
diameter. There is a photo in Bowers' Encyclopedia, 13th printing,
1997, page 243.

The earliest discs we have are marked "BHA London" 8672 (title not
clear) and 8674, "A Greek Slave". Interestingly, the disc rotates
counter clockwise. Abrahams initially made cheaper cylinder boxes and
later disc boxes when the cylinder box industry was declining and hence
the time period for the latter seems to have been around 1898-1900.
