Piano Roll Box Explodes in Microwave Oven
By Stanley Harrison
With respect to John Phillips' exploding piano roll box -- black paper
likely contains a lot of carbon! Elemental carbon and water are the
two best absorbers of microwave energy. That's why bread, once it is
browned, rapidly escalates to totally burned and possible flame. All
the power is concentrating in the blackened region because it's black!
