Market Value of a Piano Roll Collection
By Marc Sachnoff

Regarding Joseph Osborne's question about buying a large piano roll
collection, I would first compare the value of the rolls against the
storage volume. And when I say value I don't mean monetary value
(which is diminishing almost daily), I mean the personal value you
assign to each roll.

Every year I seem to give away to the Salvation Army at least 100 or
200 rolls that have no collector value or personal interest. A friend
of mine, who is less enthusiastic about this hobby, suggested I look at
these unwanted piano rolls from the cost of storage versus BTU heating
value if I burned them in the fireplace! I'm glad he's not in charge
of any museum of collection. But, then again, it does get cold in
Seattle in the winter. ;-)

Warmly from chilly Seattle,
Marc J. Sachnoff
